Milk Thistle Extract

Milk Thistle Extract

Milk Thistle Extract is produced from Silybum marianum (L.) Gaertn. fruit for manufacturers evaluating silymarin-assayed botanical ingredients. Herbify supports specification comparison, sample coordination and available technical documentation for Australian product-development enquiries.

  • Specifications

    Available grades may include:

    Grade Typical assay declaration
Standard silymarin extract Silymarin 80% by UV
Profiled silymarin extract Silymarin 45%–60% by HPLC, with UV result where specified
Silybin-focused extract Silybin or silybin + isosilybin at defined HPLC assay; higher-purity grades subject to enquiry

UV and HPLC values are method-specific and should not be treated as interchangeable. Confirm the exact assay method, marker definition, carrier system and batch documentation before comparing quotations.

  • Applications & Formulation

    • Botanical tablets, capsules and powder blends
    • Pharmaceutical and complementary-medicine development, subject to the finished product's applicable Australian requirements
    • Personal-care or topical concepts where the selected grade and formulation are suitable
    • Animal-nutrition concepts only after confirming species, use level and regulatory suitability

Solubility: Standard silymarin-rich extracts are poorly soluble in water. They are generally better suited to dry formats, suspensions or formulated delivery systems than clear beverages. Dispersibility varies with particle size, carrier and processing method; bench testing is recommended.

Formulation note: Confirm sensory impact, colour, excipients and compatibility in the finished matrix. A higher numerical assay is not automatically the better commercial choice if the analytical method, marker definition or delivery format differs.

  • Documents & Enquiries

Request the current specification and batch-specific documentation before purchase. Available documentation may include a Certificate of Analysis, specification sheet, allergen statement, GMO statement, residual-solvent information, microbiological limits and other compliance documents where applicable to the selected grade.

For a quotation, provide the target assay and test method, intended application, annual or trial quantity, delivery location in Australia and required document list. Final suitability and permitted claims depend on the finished product category, formulation and applicable Australian requirements.

  • FAQ

Is silymarin 80% by UV the same as 80% by HPLC?
No. UV and HPLC measure and report the extract differently. Compare like-for-like methods and request the chromatographic marker definition where needed.

Is milk thistle extract water soluble?
Most conventional silymarin-rich powders have limited water solubility. For beverages or liquid systems, discuss the required clarity, dispersion target and processing conditions before selecting a grade.

What information is needed for an enquiry?
Provide the assay method, target markers, dosage format, required documents, trial quantity and expected annual volume so the most suitable available grade can be assessed.
